Now we’re on movie #32 and they’ve decided to go back and remake Superman: Doomsday by staying closer to the source material this time, which is why it’s been separated into two movies, with this first part being called, appropriately enough, The Death Of Superman! I’ve been a fan of about 95% of the films they’ve created ever since Superman: Doomsday. Once Lex kills that chick I stayed riveted to the movie, and was even more surprised to see blood on the street after “faux” Superman kills Toyman by good ol’ fashion “deceleration trauma” (aka dropping him from a great height). Killing was okay for these animated movies now?! At the time I had forgotten all about Batman: Return Of The Joker (2000) and its depiction of animated violence. I had an inkling it was going to be different earlier on when Doomsday kills this random guy in the woods, and a deer. I knew it was PG-13, but it didn’t really occur to me how PG-13 it was until that murder. ![]() It was a condensed version of the arc, which surprised me because until Lex Luthor executed someone with a gun in his office (seen in shadow) I had no idea how different these movies were going to be from the other direct-to-DVD movies they’ve made in the past. ![]() ![]() It’s hard to believe it’s been eleven years since Warner Brothers started their DC Animated Movie line (still going strong to this day too I might add), kicking it off with Bruce Timm’s adaptation of “The Death Of Superman” comic book arc, Superman: Doomsday (2007).
